Subject: | Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships |
I take the liberty of sending this message to both the RDG and the ODG as it may be of interest to colleagues all over the world, even though the time line is rather short.
The Canadian federal funding agencies have launched a joint program of postdoctoral fellowships in all disciplines. These are very well funded and the competition will be strong.
The federal web site is at http://banting.fellowships-bourses.gc.ca/home-accueil-eng.html
Candidates have to apply through, and with the support of, the host institution.
If anyone knows a top-notch candidate who would like to apply for such a fellowship tenable here at McGill, please feel free to contact me as soon as possible.
The McGill web page is at http://www.mcgill.ca/gps/postdocs/fellowships/banting/
Yours,
Lionel Smith

Subject: FW: Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships
Dear colleagues
I note the deadline for this year’s application for Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships is October 15 2010.
These scholarships are very attractive packages designed to attract top tier postdoctoral talent – further information about the program is to be found below. If anyone knows of a student either here or elsewhere who might be interested in this program, they are encouraged to apply and of course you can always contact my office for additional information.
The new Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships Program is administered by Canada’s three research granting councils (CIHR, NSERC, SHRCC) It aims to attract and retain top-tier postdoctoral talent, both nationally and internationally, to develop their leadership potential and to position them for success as research leaders of tomorrow, positively contributing to Canada’s economic, social and research-based growth through a research-intensive career. The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships Program is distinguished from existing postdoctoral fellowships programs by its emphasis on: · synergy between an applicant's individual merit and potential to launch a successful research-intensive career; and · host institution's commitment to the research program and environment with which the applicant is to be affiliated. An applicant's application to the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships Program must be completed in full collaboration with the proposed host institution. A Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship is valued at $70,000 per year (taxable), for two years. Seventy fellowships will be awarded this year.
The internal deadline for providing completed applications to GPS for signature by the Principal is October 15, 2010. The deadline for final submission on ResearchNet by the applicant is November 3, 2010.
